Doha, May 10, 2025 – WTTC2025 Media Desk

Thani Al-Zaraa, Head of the Media and Communications Committee for the World Table Tennis Championships Doha 2025, has confirmed Qatar’s complete readiness to host an exceptional and historic edition of the championship, set to take place from May 17–25 at Lusail Sports Arena and Qatar University Sports Complex.

Al-Zaraa emphasized the completion of all final logistical and operational preparations, including accommodation for delegations and fans, transportation services, venue readiness, and media infrastructure.

"We are in the final stages of preparation. Both Lusail and Qatar University halls are fully equipped. Qatar is committed to delivering a world-class championship that will stand out in the event’s prestigious history,” said Al-Zaraa in a statement to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Massive Global Demand for Tickets

Al-Zaraa highlighted overwhelming international interest in attending the event. Tickets for the final five days of competition and knockout rounds have sold out via the official ticketing platform (Q.Ticket). Additional ticket batches are being planned to meet demand.

To support fan attendance from abroad, discounted hotel packages and dedicated transportation (buses and metro) have been organized, enhancing accessibility and comfort for international visitors.

Global Media & Broadcast Impact

The tournament is receiving extensive global media coverage, with:

  • 260 international journalists officially registered via the ITTF,

  • Full domestic media coverage from Qatar,

  • Live match broadcasting confirmed via Al Kass Sports, Tokyo TV, and Chinese national networks,

  • Four European broadcasters currently in negotiation for coverage rights.

 A First-Ever WTTC Opening Ceremony

“Although an opening ceremony is not a standard part of WTTC, Qatar will once again set a new benchmark,” said Al-Zaraa.

A 30-minute surprise opening show will be held on-site, aiming to captivate both live audiences and global television viewers.

Parallel Events & High-Level Summits

Several high-profile events will be hosted during the championship:

  • The 17th ITTF Sports Science Congress at Aspetar Hospital (May 15–16), welcoming global sports medicine experts.

  • Full medical support for the tournament provided by Aspetar.

  • The ITTF Global Summit (May 21–26).

  • The ITTF Electoral General Assembly (May 27), during which a new ITTF President will be elected through 2029. Qatar’s Khalil Al-Mohannadiis in the running.

Strategic Rehearsal for ITTF’s Centennial

WTTC Doha 2025 will serve as a key preparatory event for the ITTF’s 100th Anniversary celebrations, scheduled for Wembley Arena in 2026, marking a century since the first world championship in 1926.

Qatar’s National Team Participation

Qatar will field a full squad with five male and two female athletes:

  • Mohammed Abdulwahhab, Abdullah Abdulwahhab, Sultan Al-Kuwari, Ahmed Eid, Rawad Al-Nasser, Aya Magdy, and Maryam Ali.

“This is a golden opportunity for our national team to compete against the best and raise their technical level,” Al-Zaraa said.

Arrival Timeline & Asian Pre-Championship Camp

Participating delegations will begin arriving from May 12, led by Team China. All teams will be present in Doha by May 15.

Two official training halls will be available immediately upon arrival at the competition venues. In addition, an Asian Training Camp, co-hosted with the ITTF, will take place at Aspire Academy from May 14–19, featuring youth players from across the continent.

Flawless Inspections, Full ITTF Endorsement

Al-Zaraa confirmed that three rounds of inspections were completed since 2024, with no violations or concerns raised.

“ITTF officials are already on-site, overseeing preparations closely. The championship will be delivered at the highest standard—without compromise.”

Qatar: First Arab Nation to Host WTTC Twice

Qatar is the first Arab and Gulf country to host the WTTC twice (after its debut in 2004). With world-class facilities, proven organizational capacity, and a rich history of hosting global sporting events, Qatar is poised to deliver a landmark edition.

“We are ready to make this version even more spectacular than 2004,” Al-Zaraa concluded.

Background:

Qatar secured the hosting rights for WTTC 2025 after winning the vote at the ITTF General Assembly in Amman, Jordan (December 2022), with 57 votes against 39 for Alicante, Spain.
